HIGHLIGHTS
Upland Park (Highland Park) and Flame Towers
As one of the best sights of the Baku City Tour is Baku’s Upland Park which is the highest point in the Azerbaijani capital, opening a panoramic view of the city and its bay. The city’s residents and visitors often come here to see a bird’s eye view of Baku and just have a walk. The Upland Park can be reached by cable railway (funicular – additional) in 7-8 minutes from the boulevard, by climbing up the endless stone stairs or just by car. At the top of the park, there are located the country’s parliament building, the alley of martyrs, and the world-famous symbol of modern Baku, the Flame Towers. This park is a beautiful corner of Baku and is considered one of the most interesting places in our city’s guests.

Nizami Street
The first destination of the Baku City tour is Nizami Street which is a large pedestrian and shopping street in downtown Baku, Azerbaijan, named after classical poet Nizami Ganjavi. The street’s history could be traced back to Baku’s town-planning project of 1864. The street runs through the city’s downtown from west to east. It begins from Abdulla Shaiq Street, in the mountainous part of the city and ends at a railroad bed on Sabit Orujov Street. The total length of the street is 3,538 m. The traffic-free segment, which begins at the Fountains Square and ends at the RashidBehbudov Street, is commonly known as Torgovaya (“the merchant street” in Russian). Nizami Street is home to various outlets, from banks to fashion stores, and is one of the most expensive streets in the world.

Old City
Besides the modern sights of the city, the Baku city tour covers also the old town of Baku. You will have a walking tour inside the Old City and will get a deep understanding of the history of Baku which was located in the center of the Silk Road and was one of the richest cities in the East.
The Palace of the Shirvanshahs is a 15th-century palace built by the Shirvanshahs and described by UNESCO as “one of the pearls of Azerbaijan’s architecture”. It is located in the Inner City of Baku, Azerbaijan, and, together with the Maiden Tower, forms an ensemble of historic monuments inscribed under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments. The complex contains the main building of the palace, Divanhane, the burial-vaults, the shah’s mosque with a minaret, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi’s mausoleum, south of the palace, a portal in the east, Murad’s gate, a reservoir, and the remnants of a bathhouse.
Maiden Tower located in the old city and which was built in the 12-th century for defense purposesis considered as a symbol of Baku.

Absheron and Yanardang Tour
Based on Persian and Indian inscriptions, the temple was used as a Hindu and Zoroastrian place of worship. “Atash” is the Persian word for fire. The pentagonal complex, which has a courtyard surrounded by cells for monks and a tetra pillar-altar in the middle, was built during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was abandoned in the late 19th century, probably due to the dwindling of the Indian population in the area. The natural "eternal flame" went out in 1969, after nearly a century of exploitation of petroleum and gas in the area, but is now lit by gas piped from the nearby city
Trip to "Fire Mountain "-"Yanardag" -a mountain on Absheron peninsula , 25 km from north of Baku. Literally, word "Yanardag" means "Blazing mountain". Blazing bodies of flame dance on stones and floor. Yanar dag is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, which itself is known as the "land of fire."
At the end of the tour drop off at the hotel in Baku.

I'm usually a "do it yourself trip planner" but since this time due to work commitments, i decided to first time use a travel agency. I'm glad and grateful that Kath recommended City One Tourism and Travel. I want to highlight my experience wit Ms. Katherine. Our trip to Azerbaijan was thoroughly laid out. She answered all my questions even if I repeatedly asked. Her follow up was great, very detail oriented. I highly recommend City One Tourism and Travel; and going forward I shall myself use the services whenever I travel in future.
