Beruwala is the very first main beach resort in the south western coastal belt that tourists visit when they travel past the beaches of Kalutara and Wadduwa located south of Colombo. 15km south of Kalutara is Beruwala. Immediately to the south of Beruwala is the fishing village of Aluthgama.

After Breakfast, Visit the turtle hatchery.

Sri Lanka is home to five endangered species of turtle: leathery, olive ridley, loggerhead, hawksbill and the green turtle. To aid conservation, hatcheries have sprung up along the west coast. Fishermen are paid to collect the eggs (mostly Nov - Apr) and hand them over to the hatchery staff who then bury the eggs protected areas before releasing the hatchlings into the waters.

Afterwards enjoy a boat ride at Madhu River.

Take a boat ride along the Madu River in Balapitiya near Bentota. Home to 303 species of plants and 248 species of vertebrates, this is a wetland area of high ecological significance and one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka. Cruise from the river mouth to visit a couple of islands in the river and watch fishermen at work.

On completion transfer back to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

After Breakfast, proceed to Colombo

Sri Lanka’s sprawling capital is developing rapidly with a host of new hotels, smart boutiques and cosmopolitan restaurants. This is a city of contrasts where serene Buddhist temples and colonial churches nestle amid ramshackle streets and shiny office blocks. The frantic Pettah markets and Paradise Road Studio offer interesting shopping opportunities and no visit is complete without a stroll along coastal Galle Face Green.

Enjoy an afternoon city tour of Colombo. Start your tour in the old fort district, passing the President’s house and the old Dutch hospital, now a shopping and restaurant complex. Take a walk around Pettah market, still as bustling as it would have been in the late 19th Century and pass the Red Mosque, one of the oldest on the island. Drive on past the old St John’s Fish Market, now a gold souk, to Wolvendaal Church, the country’s oldest Protestant church and once the burial ground for the elite Dutch.
